A message from our President:Before I began this journey leading to the founding of ABANA and the re-building of a remote village school in Rwanda, I had a sense of hopelessness about the situation in my home country. Now with the support of so many friends and fellow Australians, I can see that the work of ABANA has already made a huge impact on many children's lives. ABANA is about empowerment, and supporting projects that create lasting change in communities - changes that will last through to the next generation, and beyond. The warmth, community spirit and generosity of Australians has touched and encouraged me every step of the way. Our work is far from done though, with many children still lacking access to basics that you and I take for granted, such as pens, pencils and exercise books. I encourage you to get involved, and join us on this exciting journey of helping others help themselves. We really need your on-going support to continue our work, so please tell your friends about us, become a member, or make a donation. Your help will make a real difference to the lives of thousands of children living in poverty. Thank you to all ABANA's friends and supporters for helping us achieve what we have done so far.
Christine Murorunkwere President ABANA Inc NEWS FROM RWANDA
Another successful volunteer visit! Our wonderful volunteer, Jose Pavis has generously spent the first three months of his retirement from January to March 2010, helping to train teachers at Rugerero & Ruzusumiro primary schools. In addition, he oversaw the delivery of textbooks, pens and writing materials to both schools. Jose has come home with loads of great ideas to improve the schools and we are hoping to be able to bring many of these ideas into fruition with our fundraising activities this year.
